The area of the Foča municipality is characterized by high mountain ranges that belong to the Dinaric mountain chain.

Foča is a municipality with the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mount Maglić, 2386 meters above sea level), the only primeval forest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the largest in Europe – Perućica, which is located in the Sutjeska National Park. In this still untouched nature reserve, you can find the largest European spruce trees, Jela (63m) and Omore (65m), as well as prime specimens of beech trees, and the Skakavac waterfall (73m high), which is undoubtedly the most beautiful waterfall in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bounded to the southeast by the unique Tara River Canyon, the deepest in Europe and second in the world, only behind the Grand Canyon in the USA. Mount Zelengora rightfully bears the title of the most beautiful and gentle mountain of the Dinarides, with 8 glacial lakes.

Itinerary plan

Day 1Arrival and dinner

Arrival at Camp Rajska Rijeka in the afternoon. Accommodation and dinner. For dinner, you will have the opportunity to try freshly prepared specialties of local cuisine (goulash, grilled dishes, pies, grilled fresh trout, urmašice, etc.) to enjoy in the camp atmosphere with light music and crackling fire, and to rest from the journey. Overnight stay.

Day 2Rafting on the Tara River from Brštanovica to the camp

After breakfast, preparation for rafting begins, including equipment selection, briefing with the guide, and transportation to the starting point of the rafting adventure. This is followed by a descent down the Tara River, covering a distance of approximately 25 km, with a few stops along the way for photography and swimming. You’ll arrive at our private beach by raft, where a delicious lunch awaits, featuring freshly prepared specialties such as veal, beef soup, and hurmašice (a traditional dessert). After some rest and relaxation, the evening continues at the camp with music and a campfire. Dinner is served, followed by overnight stay.

Day 3Breakfast and rafting down the Tara River back to the camp

Breakfast is served, followed by departure from the camp at 9:00 AM by off-road vehicle to Lokve – Dernečišta towards Vučevo. Along the way, we’ll make a stop at a viewpoint in the Perućica primeval forest, offering a breathtaking view of the Skakavac waterfall. On your left, you’ll see the impressive and towering Maglić (the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina at 2386m), rising over 700m above you, while on your right, you’ll admire Volujak (the second-highest mountain in BiH), Sniježnica, and Vučevo. Opposite Maglić, numerous picturesque peaks of Zelengora stretch out. Can you imagine so many mountains in one place? The ascent to Maglić from this direction is quite demanding, suitable only for physically fit hikers. It’s a mountain that’s truly worth visiting, experiencing, and attempting to conquer. The summit itself is a story of its own. The trail is challenging. Estimated hiking time is about 6 hours. We’ll return to the camp around 6:00 PM. Lunch will be served at the camp.
